At Savannah Bee Company, honeybees are a way of life.
Founder, President and Head Beekeeper Ted Dennard grew up in Coastal Georgia, where an elderly beekeeper named Roy Hightower introduced him to the world of bees and honey. What began as a fascination became a lifelong passion. In 1999, Ted began selling his tupelo honey through a friend's Savannah store, and three years later, Savannah Bee Company was born.
Today, Ted remains dedicated to sharing the world of bees with others, creating exceptional honeybee products and helping people better understand the important role pollinators play in our world. At the heart of his philosophy is a simple idea: we can learn something from the way bees live, working symbiotically with nature and contributing positively to the world around them.
That philosophy now has a new home in Savannah.
Welcome to BeeTopia
Years in the making, BeeTopia is Savannah Bee Company's newest immersive destination and a place Ted envisioned as a meeting point for people, pollinators, education and discovery.
Designed as an oasis for pollinators and people alike, BeeTopia invites guests to step more deeply into the world of the hive through guided bee tours, interactive learning experiences, tastings and opportunities to explore the natural world together.
Outside, gardens filled with pollinator friendly plantings create thriving habitats for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. A vivid mural by artist Matt Willey of The Good of the Hive brings the building to life, surrounded by the very creatures it celebrates.
Inside, guests can see an observation hive up close and meet educators who offer a closer look at the fascinating world of bees. As BeeTopia continues to grow, Savannah Bee Company plans to introduce even more experiences, including guided mead tours, interactive learning centers, hive inspired gifts and new ways to connect with the hive.
More than a place to learn about honey, BeeTopia is an invitation to understand the extraordinary creatures behind it and the ecosystems that allow them to thrive.
For Ted, it is the realization of an idea years in the making. For visitors to Savannah, it is a new way to experience one of the city's most beloved local companies and leave with a little more curiosity about the natural world.

Visit the Savannah Bee Company’s downtown location, walking distance from Perry Lane Hotel, for an exciting mead tasting. Mead, or honey wine, is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man. It is made from honey and water via fermentation with yeast. It may be still, carbonated, or sparkling; it may be dry, semi-sweet, or sweet. Unlike beers and cider, meads (being wines) are drunk in small quantities.
